Midtown East scenery
I lucked out in new-neighborhood scenery for me. I stayed at some hotel named Roger Something or Other a few years ago, but this time I had better weather for strolling around. The Central Synagogue (congregation established 1839; current building by Henry Fehrnbach, 1872) was great fun! Except for the weird little onion domes it's very much like Mameluk Cairo -- but the plan and side facades are much more Gothic. Well, sort of.Wacky!
