It's just not like it used to be . . .

Chattanooga, that is. And when former Chattanoogans say that they mean that it's so much nicer than when we were children. Mother and I got down to the river front for a long walk on Monday. Almost every visit there's something new and interesting in the mix - since I was here this summer they've opened up the connections between Coolidge Park (between the two bridges) and the new stretch of park downstream.

We're on the road now to NoVa for second Christmas with the nephews and nieces.

In the late 1960s I sometimes needed to go to Chattanooga on business. The pollution and resulting haze and fog most days was bad enough that when I got home that evening my white shirts inevitably had a yellow cast to them. Often the haze would not clear until late in the morning. And of course, you would never consider eating the fish from the river. Forty years late, it is a bright, clean city with many things to do, and even the river is sparkling again.

Wow! Terrific photos. Now I feel terrible--the family and I were there the morning of the 29th and probably only missed seeing you by a few minutes.
