Nashville Panics?
Well, there sure isn't any gas there. I talked to a friend a little while ago who had run out of town to check out a conference site out west and was headed back into town - and there was no gas to be found in Nashville.
The linked story suggests that it's a mass panic.
He likened it to Southerners rushing out to stock up on bread and milk when they hear it might snow. As stations began running low, the situation snowballed, he said.
By the way, Yankees rush to grocery stores and buy bread and milk, too.
People.

Indeed, there are far more gas stations closed than open, and not all of the open ones have gas. The ones that do have long lines out into the street. And yet 50 miles in any direction, and there is no problem.

I currently live in Nashville. It was last reported that 84% of the gas stations in the city are out of gas. I personally ended up on empty and sat in line for half an hour, turning my car on and off when the line moved forward, eventually giving up and nervously headed home. I had to wake up at 6am this morning and only sit in another line. The lines weren't too massive, though just shortly after I arrived, the lines started increasing. There are $20 limits at the pumps to which the price can be up to as high as $4.65 a gallon. People in line are mad and honking at one another. People parking on the side of the streets or in nearby parking lots to walk to the pumps with gas cans. I've seen family outings to the nearest working pump, kids with gas cans in hand. Some lines so long that people were standing outside their cars talking amongst one another. The lines are creating traffic jams, high emotions, and empty pockets. We are still not sure of where the rumors came from, but we definitely would love to find out. I, personally, drove past 20 gas stations, to which only 3 were working. It's certainly a mess here and I have never seen anything like it.

Yes, but I think we do it better. I remember the same thing in Atlanta the Friday before Labor Day Weekend when Katrina was hitting Nola.
