Professor stabbed.

When I read this story about a stabbing over a grade I'm suddenly grateful my student who is unhappy with her grade used email.

As often the case in these reports, there is always someone who says "there are two sides to the story." In this case, it was the kid's lawyer, and I will be waiting to see what the "other side" is on a case that seems to be a clear case of stalking and premeditated attack. He followed her home, taking precautions so as not to be noticed, and he dragged her from the house to stab her. Makes me glad I don't have to give out grades any more.

Back in the early 80s I heard a story, in connection with the scarceness of jobs then compared to the early 50s. An English student who was unhappy went to shoot his prof, couldn't find anyone there at all, went to a different floor in the same building and shot and killed a random history prof.

How'd you like to be killed for a grade you had no connection with?

The punch line of the story -- though it wasn't told as a joke -- was that there were 150 applications for the dead prof's job.
