It’s been a Lambalicious summer

Twice while I was home in Chattanooga I cooked lamb for Mama and Daddy (well, really for Daddy). And tonight I did a rack for a couple of friends and now feel guilty about underseasoning Daddy’s lamb. I went up to the balcony and got thyme and sage (and basil for the insalata caprese). Chopped them fine and rubbed them with salt and pepper and olive oil over the 8-rib rack. Cook to 140 and YUM.
Good sunset views off the balcony, too.

Good mix for grilling chicken, enjoying the late evening sky, and starting what looks to be a grim Norwegian mystery (Jo Nesbo, Redbreast).

AC/DC launches its own wine.

The only interesting thing about this story is that I didn’t know that any rock bands had their own wine lines, let alone Madonna. I went to a restaurant in Milan this spring that has a clientele of former paratroopers, line of wine named for Mussolini, and really good beef carpaccio.
But rock bands?

Quattro stagione – the pizza of Naples

OK – the first picture posted from the Napoli trip is totally self-indulgent..me eating a pizza that reminds me of all kinds of moments in my life. First stay in Naples with the Experiment in International Living. Second visit to Naples in the mid 80s with A.K. Wyatt. More pizza. Next visit to Naples in 2003. And now . . . well, I had a happy pizza!

Weekend in Napoli

Back from a weekend in Naples with 209 photos. I was too tired last night even to download them, let alone decide which to keep.
We had a GREAT time. I love Naples — it was my introduction to Italy more than 30 years ago (eeek! Dale?) and it’s always interesting to go back. The highlights are the best espresso in the world (really – and they pre-heat the cups), sfogliatelle, ministeriale, and pizza. Here for food links – low carb goes out the window in Italy, but especially in Naples. And the churches! And the museums! Check the flickr feed for pictures.

Gosh – old tech!

Have you watched Alien lately? I’m having a night of self-indulgence* and popped in a DVD. 1979. Some of that tech looks positively solid state. Remember when “solid state” meant “good”?
And here I was just complaining about my gigabyte folding SD memory card not working right!
*In honor of me and my birthday. Thank you, Mother and Daddy! We had a group dinner tonight (which means that I started early and finished late), and the organizers relented on the Dinner in Ancient Rome theme so that I could have chocolate for dessert! So no homework for me tonight.

Our friend the brussel sprout . . .

I have become inordinately fond lately of the oven-roasted brussel sprout, even to the point of serving it to students* last week (and they ate them all). Split them, strip off the outer leaf, toss them in olive oil (I’m sure italian dressing would be fine), dump them in the roasting pan at 400 with the meat (pork loin, beef sirloin, whatever) and about an hour later serve it up.
Yum!
Tonight I zapped a half dozen briefly in the microwave, and then tossed them in with a leftover bit of way-underdone steak (it was fine hot from the grill, but bloody leftovers never thrill me). I’m sure I’ll be pleased!

*I’m working my way through dinners with the Rome crew, 3 or 4 at a time. Getting to know them now helps!

The first time I’ve ever posted a video featuring Miss Tammy Wynette

Funny, I’ve owned a KLF CD since about 1995 (I bought it in Atlanta at the weird little music shop underneath the American Road House – and it kind of sums up the sounds of my last decade there), but I’d never seen the video before tonight. Perhaps I was inspired by the brussels sprouts I roasted with the tenderloin for dinner?
A word of advice — watch it this size, even if you click over to YouTube. If you enlarge it, Miss Tammy Wynette gets fuzzy. And she’s having way too much fun to get fuzzy!
And if you just NEED more of the mythos of Mu Mu from the KLF . . . . Well, click here! Viking ships! House music! My late youth! And the Rites of Mu!
Though I think the first thing of theirs I ever danced to was Last Train to Trancentral. Ah, Atlanta.
